Most of you know that Emma and I spent a good portion of 2010 in a homeless shelter. Let me tell you, when you’re homeless, you have a child that is homeless with you and money is so tight you’re squeezing the last drop out of your pennies even? Certain things can easily get left behind..especially something like brushing you teeth. While I always made sure Em had toothpaste and a toothbrush, my own fell to the wayside as 97% of the time there wasn’t enough money and the donations just weren’t there so the shelter could help.

Smoking is a nasty habit and when you can’t brush your teeth (don’t hate..we shared cigarettes in the shelter), it can REALLY mess your smile up.

I had tried everything at that point (we had been on our feet for about a year at this point and I had tried so many different things that hadn’t worked) and figured that one more try couldn’t hurt.

I’m glad I did. What I am about to show you is very personal to me. VERY and I debated even putting it in this post because it’s so personal. I wouldn’t smile back then.
