Walgreens Balance Rewards Program Details and Sign Up

I’m not much of a Walgreens shopper to be honest, but I do occasionally head over there. I may start shopping there a bit more though now that we have the Walgreens Balance Rewards program. It doesn’t seem like it’s going to be too bad at all, although I know a lot of couponer feared it would be.

Here are the basic details:

Beginning yesterday (9/16/2012), you were able to sign up for the Walgreens Balance Rewards program. This program, unlike the RR program (which is a coupon program), is a loyalty program and you will receive a loyalty card for use with it.

How to earn points:

Some Walgreens deals will now include a Balance Points reward. You can earn points by purchasing those items. One thing I do like about this program is that you can earn points on Walgreens.com as well. Either have the items shipped to your home or ship them to store. Items shipped to your home will earn points as soon as you purchase and items shipped to store will earn when picked up. You can also earn points for making healthy lifestyle choices such as getting your flu shot or participating in their Walk with Walgreens program.

How soon after I earn are my points available:
Points will be available in your Balance Rewards account 3-5 days after they are earned.

Redeeming Points:

Reward points are redeemable for “Redemption Dollars.” These are NOT cash or in store credit. Also, keep in mind that you will NOT earn points on transactions where you use Redemption Dollars so pick your transactions carefully. Also, Redemption Dollar can not be used (and point can not be earned on): alcohol; dairy; tobacco; stamps; phone/prepaid cards; money orders/transfers; transportation passes; lottery tickets; charitable donations; or pharmacy items or services that must be excluded by law as determined by Company.

Each Point Level has a specific reward that it can be redeemed for. You can either save your points up or not. It’s your choice.

5,000 points = $5
10,000 points =$10
18,000 points =$20
30,000 points =$35
40,000 points =$50

Expiration Dates:

Members that are not active by earning or redeeming points for 6 months will (unfortunately) forfeit their points. Active members of the Balance Rewards program will have their points expire on a rolling 36 month basis so if you’re going to go for this program, be sure to stay active.
